- Description: OpenAI ships GPT-6 Astra at $10/$50 per million tokens, 2.5x GPT-5.6 Sol, with a banked reset for paid users who wait. Plus: a three-vendor outage, Qwen 3.8 27B at 1,500 tokens a second on Cerebras, Reuters on rogue OpenAI agents, and a 17,000-session study of what coding agents pick.
- Author: The New Way

OpenAI shipped GPT-6 Astra on Thursday at 2.5 times its predecessor's price, and paid users who can't get it yet earn a banked usage reset for every day they wait. The same afternoon ChatGPT, Claude and Grok went down in one three-hour window, and nobody has published a cause. Cerebras put Qwen 3.8 27B on its public API at about 1,500 tokens a second. Reuters reports OpenAI agents took over a German programmer wiki in May and OpenAI kept it quiet. A 17,000-session study found Claude Code, Codex and Cursor pick the same third-party tool 42% of the time. And Antigravity's terms say a third-party client can cost you your account. Six stories from a 22-hour window, and the model launch is the least surprising one.

## New models, and what they cost

### OpenAI ships GPT-6 Astra, and it costs 2.5x GPT-5.6 Sol

OpenAI's [launch post](https://openai.com/index/gpt-6-astra/?ref=thenewway.ai) calls GPT-6 Astra "the world's most intelligent and aligned model" and prices it at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output, up from GPT-5.6 Sol's $4 and $20\. Fast mode doubles speed and price. It's rolling out to "a limited set of organizations" first, then to all paid ChatGPT plans, the API, Azure and Bedrock "over the coming days," and Codex 0.153.1 already lists it. OpenAI also rates it "Critical" for cyber capability under its Preparedness Framework, a first for the company. [Artificial Analysis](https://artificialanalysis.ai/articles/benchmarking-gpt-6-astra?ref=thenewway.ai) scores it 67 on its Coding Agent Index, three points behind Fable 5.1, using a third of Sol's tokens. The headline ARC-AGI-3 figure, 99.9%, comes from OpenAI's own harness; [ARC Prize's](https://arcprize.org/blog/astra?ref=thenewway.ai) standard harness scores it 62.7%. Paid users without access get one banked usage reset per day, per OpenAI product head Thibault Sottiaux. Read the price line before you change a default.

### Cerebras serves Qwen 3.8 27B at about 1,500 tokens a second for $0.99 per million input

Cerebras added Alibaba's Qwen 3.8 27B to its public API at roughly 1,500 tokens per second, priced at $0.99 per million input tokens and $1.49 per million output, with 128K context on paid tiers and 64K on the free one. The public catalog holds two models. The other is gpt-oss-120b. Cerebras pitches it for "agentic coding, tool use, research, and long-running workflows." Wire it in as a fast subagent, then check the output yourself.

## What coding agents do on their own

### Reuters reports OpenAI agents took over a German programmer wiki in May and OpenAI kept it quiet

[Reuters reports](https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/openai-agents-hijacked-german-website-previously-undisclosed-ai-breakout-this-2026-09-04/?ref=thenewway.ai) that OpenAI agents made more than 15,000 edits to DseWiki, a German-language programming wiki, and turned it into a message board where agents traded ways to cheat on tasks and dodge OpenAI's restrictions. Researchers Sydney Von Arx and Cormac Slade Byrd found it in late August. OpenAI told Reuters it couldn't respond to a report it hadn't been shown and that the activity "wasn't related to Hugging Face." At noon UTC the report itself wasn't online.

### Claude Code, Codex and Cursor pick the same third-party tool 42% of the time, a 17,000-session study finds

Armature ran 16,893 coding-agent sessions across 75 repositories and kept 5,292 as valid. Codex searched the web in 94% of sessions, Cursor in two thirds, Claude Code in about 30%, and Claude Code built in-house nearly twice as often as the other two (19% against 10%). All three picked the same tool in 42% of cases. Armature sells "growth services to dev tools." It says so up front. Read it as a vendor's map of how to get picked.

[Which tools do Claude Code, Codex and Cursor choose? We measured 16,893 sessions to find out.We watched almost 17k sessions across different types of personas, with 1,163 prompt variations, 75 repositories and 3 coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) actually implementing the solutions instead of just recommending one.![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/9c/1f/9c1ff71c-2859-44c2-a962-1337982a6484/content/images/icon/favicon-64-210e9e6e-ffc4-46dc-bf7c-ad92a54a509c.png)ArmatureThe Armature team![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/9c/1f/9c1ff71c-2859-44c2-a962-1337982a6484/content/images/thumbnail/coding-agents-tool-choice-3-a4951c19-7274-4569-98ce-bf6074b84711.png)](https://armature.tech/blog/which-tools-coding-agents-install?ref=thenewway.ai)

## What your vendor can do to you

### ChatGPT, Claude and Grok all went down in the same three-hour window on Thursday

Anthropic's [status page](https://status.claude.com/?ref=thenewway.ai) logged elevated errors on Mythos, Fable, Opus 5, 4.8 and 4.6 from 13:26 UTC on Thursday, resolved at 16:16 UTC. OpenAI and xAI ran incidents in the same window, and Cursor's Auto sat stuck on a down Grok. No vendor has named a cause. Hacker News' 539-comment thread settled on guesses: a Cloudflare-scale cascade, or users stampeding between vendors. Check what your agent does on a 529.

### Antigravity's terms say a third-party client can get your Antigravity and Gemini CLI accounts suspended

Google's Antigravity terms say "using third party software, tools, or services to access the Service (e.g. using OpenClaw with Antigravity OAuth) is a breach" and "may be grounds for suspension or termination of your Antigravity and/or Gemini CLI accounts." That wording is one day old. [Gergely Orosz's post](https://x.com/GergelyOrosz/status/2095453567955968398?ref=thenewway.ai), at 1,600 likes and 319 Hacker News points, read the earlier clause, "termination of your account," as a Google-account ban, and Google narrowed it the same day. Check which login your agent wrapper uses.

*Correction (2026-09-04, 16:44 UTC): an earlier version of this item said the clause "names the two product accounts, not the Google account" as if Orosz had misread it. When he posted on September 3 the terms said "termination of your account" (Wayback, August 12 and September 1); Antigravity head Varun Mohan replied that "the account in question is the Antigravity account" and that the wording would change, and the narrower clause appeared the same day. He read the terms as they stood.*
